I have mentioned the Ivanpah facility a few months ago: it’s a solar energy factory based on thermal technology. And that means it is using water – lots of water, actually – to turn the suns light into electricity. I had not thought it through, but the MIT Technology Review website explains how Solar Thermal Technology Poses Challenges for Drought-Stricken California.

The California situation clearly illustrates how essential it is to get all the facts before deciding how to solve a problem, and at the same time how difficult it can be to do so.

Also note that the comments to the article point to alternative cooling systems, and even to alternative solar power generation systems…
