Disaster. I was reformatting my ancient website today, and instead of handcoding all the HTML and CSS I tried Apple’s iWeb. Now don’t get me wrong: iWeb can help you to create a lovely page or two without forcing you to learn the actual basics of HTML, but… there were still many strange phenomena: certain words being turned into PNG files (which Firefox did not like at all, stretching them into weird forms), parts of the page jumping from one spot to another in the final result, etc. And after looking at the code generated by iWeb, I had nightmarish visions of Frontpage all over: ‘t was a complete disaster, with reams of code for the simplest of things. So I started again – by hand, indeed! You’ll have to wait a bit longer for a decent result, but at least I’ll know how to maintain it.
