Somehow our home internet connection broke down last weekend, and didn’t come up again until late last evening. Why, we still don’t know – the technician is supposed to be on his way to here ;-) But the impact was felt: the children missed their FB friends, of course, but they insist that their school work suffered as well. There may be free internet computers at the local library, but that only helps when the library is open and it isn’t open on Saturday afternoon, nor on Sundays.
This period of almost 4 days was a good test for my smartphone. Having no other means for reading and writing e-mails, following RSS streams, and surfing the web, I have come to the conclusion that the ZTE Blade is quite good for occasional mobile internet needs. But it fails when you need to use it more intensively: it’s a power-hungry machine, unable to last a full working day; web browsing could use more CPU and GPU power (and better antennae as well); and the screen is too small for typing more text than fits a text message or a Tweet.
Conclusion: I’m on the lookout for a new smartphone. I have read good things about the Samsung Galaxy S Plus, even if it does not pack the latest and newest features. But I’ll go check it out in the flesh, along with a few of its competitors, before making a final decision.
